I’m just telling a story

christa grew up in tacoma washington as a band geek and extracurricular activity junkie at her rural high school Woodrow Wilson. she was class president, in the debate club, pep club, community symphony program and a bunch of other things. she took a stab at college but decided to try the Navy instead which was the best decision she ever made. she was able to get a high level clearance and her first assignment was for NATO in italy. she lived in europe for five years before heading to san diego to serve on a ship a.k.a. floating summer camp. more travels more friends more crazy life experiences then her final assignment at the joint intelligence center in hawaii. three years working a swing shift in the 24-hr center she started blogging religiously about the nightlife and scene in honolulu, which was epic to her. the people, places, all of it was what she began to live for and each week readers would anxiously wait to see a new thumbnail on supercw.com which meant there were another 100 photos to scroll through and read her commentary about them. at the end of her assignment she decided to separate from the service after 11 years because hawaii touched her in a way no other place in the world could. after a few various stabs at work she was hired to handle the marketing & events for billion dollar family owned young’s market company where she reigned for 8 years creating liquor events, launching brands, showcasing products, fun bartender and customer outings, golf tournaments, tradeshows, awards events and a bunch more. a real newspaper asked her to be their columnist thus began “Social Lite” in the honolulu weekly. in 2010 she met jasper wong who was doing a collaborative art event in hong kong called Pow Wow that she went to see, and begged him to bring it to hawaii, that she would help him lock it all in. in 2015 she was diagnosed with breast cancer at stage iv, but was able to get to clear scans 4 months later. after sharing what she did to beat it she is now on a new mission to help as many people as possible take control of their own health and/or just be their best selves. it’s possible.

christa is down for just about whatever. Feel free to contact if you have any questions about the market, nightlife, music, arts, venues, parties, internet, whatever.

    Hey Christa,

I was browsing on what there is to do for nightlife in Honolulu and came across your website (since I’ll be there for six days for my sister’s destination wedding). I’ll be arriving tomorrow evening. Any pointers for Friday and Saturday nights? Looking for a happenin’ spot that takes groups of 10 people? Either a cool bar / lounge and possibly a club after.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I’m starting a new blog. I want multiple contributors from different cities around the world to talk about the nightlife industry in their prospective city.

    Are you interested in contributing?
(the site is still being worked on)
but I would like contributions to start asap, even if you’re just writing what you already write on your blog.

  • 13 Caroline Thomas // Mar 15, 2013 at 5:39 am

My name is Caroline and I work at The Cruise Web, a travel agency that specializes in cruises. We are based just outside of Washington, D.C. The cruise industry is well-known for its entertainment and party atmosphere. As the popularity of Hawaiian cruises is rapidly growing I feel that after reading your blog I think would be a perfect fit!

I would like to submit a truly unique article about the night life on a cruise such as the bars, restaurants and parties for exclusive use on your blog. If you are interested, I would be glad to discuss the contents further. If that topic doesn’t meet your needs, I would love to collaborate with you to come up with a post that will interest your readers. The Cruise Web has more than 50 employees who have traveled and cruised around the world. I use all of their experiences when writing on behalf of the company.

I would love to be able to share their wisdom and knowledge with you and your readers. Please let me know how you would like to proceed, and feel free to check out our blog at cruiseweb.com/blog.

Hi,, Christa. I saw your comment on Bruno Lemos’ photo page for Sergio Goes’ funeral service on Kaimana Beach. I’m trying to track down a film by Sergio called God Bless America: ATM Inside. Do you know where I can get a copy or view it online? I’m trying all avenues. Thanks!

    Thanks :-)

Greetings CW! Your story & journey is so inspiring. Congrats to you & yours! I have personal questions on how someone with the exact same situation that you were in can also beat this diagnosis. The diagnosis came over a month ago, the port installed two weeks ago, yet no treatment yet. Things have been dragging. Can someone accomplish this without your amazing mental strength & the amazing support system & support you received from friends, family, & the public? I don’t know what to do or where to start. Thank you Christa.

Best wishes on your continued recovery. I enjoyed your personal posts in Metro HNL! Just an FYI: I read awhile ago out of curiosity while cruising the Hawaii State Library display shelves a comic novel called Cancer Vixen. I know, very topical, but it’s about a New York cartoonist (New Yorker, Glamour, etc.) that beats her disease and all sorts of adversity with sweet candor and humor, and is very, very real. Inspirational, too. (She gets the guy in the end). May all your best come to you in the weeks, months, and years ahead. Aloha!

    Hi Christa,

I can’t thank you enough for your card and the gift of your latest mix. I truly cherish you and wish you the best in a speedy recovery. Remember we are just vessels that travel through time and we leave our impression on this earth for just a short period.

May the force be with you!

    God Bless!
