holy shit. sorry, i don’t like to swear TOO too much. but holy fcking shit. seriously. right now, today, this second my head is spinning. there are a million things i have to do (which is weird/funny because i am on vacation this week) and i can’t stop thinking about what is happening right here in hawaii right now. yesterday was the start of Pow Wow (remember that show i went to china to see last year) and the caliber of talent that is on this island right now. i’m not just talking about the artists (OMG the artists alone is OMG-worthy) but also the string of media that are here to cover the Pow Wow. they came from new york, australia, san francisco, canada and friggin hong kong. they are each in their own right huge. they are all HERE, most of them for the first time.
yesterday was the start of the painting process, a big part of Jasper’s vision – for them to come together and take influences from each other and from their surroundings. it was amazing. the best part though? late in the night after i took some of them out to next door and the manifest, after the long drive from town back to pupukea, everyone was still up. instead of being beat down from gathering their supplies and painting all day/night they were awake and lively, sitting in a circle in kamea’s huge living room talking story. sharing experiences, discussing art, music, life. for hours. i feel so honored to even be a part of it.
you are all welcome to come to fresh cafe today and tomorrow to see their process, and i HOPE you plan to attend the opening saturday from 6p-10p. and i SUPER HOPE you plan to attend the after party (we have Donnis confirmed, and a performance by Alt/Air) (side note: you HAVE to hear Alt/Air. listennnn Faceless).
this? doesn’t happen here. ever. this? is some next level global shit.
so the after party is going to be $10. you guys know i got you normally, but please come and just pay the $10. it’s worth it for the talent alone, but Jasper paid for like 18 flights, most of them international, for this thing to happen. 100% of the door tonight will go back to him. it won’t be enough to cover it but it will hopefully show him that yes, hawaii appreciates what he did for us and for our creative community. see you there.
