TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT

artafterdark-390.jpg Art After Dark – Harajuku Lover. This one is MANGA and they have all kinda of goodies to keep with the theme, in classic Art After Dark style. 6pm people. SIX! I don’t know how many times I have to tell you to get there early.
BARI BARI 13 is playing!!!!!! Thy rock the house like crazy. That’s the band that came out of nowhere (well, actually Japan) and crashed the live music scene like a bunch of rocked out rock and roll aliens. You are going to love them.

Walk Like an Egyptian at Zanzabar. Yes. Zanzabar. They are taking it up a notch to appeal to the more mature crowd with the best of the 80s and 90s. It’s totally free for people with a local ID before midnight and only $3 to park there. A place to go right after the Academy on the last Friday of the month. FOUND! Food, drinks, music you can dance to. FOUND!

oooooo last Friday of the month! SOUL CLAP! Thirtyninehotel. I’m not going to lie it’s my favorite place like favorite favorite place. Tonight it’s my favorite music like favorite favorite music. indie, hip hop, throwbacks, mash up, electro, whatevers man. Eskae does this and Eskae rules. See you here or you blew it.

there’s also a huge welcome back party at the loft tonight. i got a case of stella in my trunk. thanks jose! maybe i’ll figure out a way to scoot over there too..

SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY

thenextmovement-246.jpg Jake has the Hoku Award playa CREED CHAMELEON performing and fashion from Manovitch and Exclusive (ooooo we get to see the new WESC i hope). Among other things. Like art from Koak and music from jonah the Whale. These events never never never suck. I just wish they were more often than once a month.

yay jake. keep em coming.

visit his website for more info on this one, but don’t miss it. serious. they’re only once a month.

springbroke-724.jpgHOW many Saturdays are there in friggin march?! AHHHH! This calendar is making it extra hard to live paycheck to paycheck. Well, i hope you rsvp’d to jason@heavywatermag.com to drink free Hinano all night at the Heavywater magazine little spring break party. No pay no pay no pay. Barely legals barely legals barely legals. How much fun can someone have in one night? Ah dunno…. i just hope i can slip some vita water in my ocean vodka drinks.
if you’re still in chinatown cause of the next movement at next door you can also stop by indigo. the malcognitas and satellite grey are playing. how cute to see indie night at indigo and a next movement at next door.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY

I’m having art day with Art. the new Biennial of Hawaii artists is up at the contemporary and guess who got to preview it this week. and WOAH! cade! can you get any cuter with your new sculptures?! CAN YA! loving it, must see it again.

Zanzabar! Did you go? Have you gone lately? My old boss from 15 years ago is a part owner, I think.

    yep!

that place needs a ‘re-do” very bad and i think marketing to the mature crowd is exactly it. it’s one of those places where it’s so bad that it’s good. the cheesy expensive decor needs a permanent nod to the era where that style of ‘clubbing’ was at its best. the 70s and 80s.

OMG. Were you around when it was the Maharaja?? I put in my 2 cents when they built it, but back then the Maharaja was a chain of successful clubs all over Japan. Well, not sure if they are still in Japan but the decor stayed at 2255 Kuhio Avenue. yiiiiikes.
